I contacted the organisation
mentioned in the magazine and at last got some answers and support.
With a degenerate medical condition, there was only one thing
to do.
Get on with it . . .
1987
- Did the Computer course at Morecombe College
and Disability Awareness
1989 - I learnt to drive as my personal mobility was becoming
more of a problem due to my condition deterioting, passing my
test on prince Charles 40th birthday.
1990 - helped to set up Lancaster Disablement & Support Centre (DISC).
It basically is an information centre on all topics relating
to disability, I still work there 3 days a week on a voluntary
basis.
I have done various courses at a local college, in fact this
September I am doing Spanish for beginners.
It was a good job I had the car
because the outside world was becoming hostile so I used a part-time
wheelchair for three years.
I got promoted to being a full-time
wheelchair user now and this has given me more freedom than ever.
Contrary of the general public's point of view -
I can at last go where I want,
when I want to.
